Who is it for
This course is for people who are nominated emergency first aiders. It is also suitable for people who want a comprehensive first aid course. The recommended maximum is 12 delegates.

Course overview
The course equips delegates with basic life saving first aid skills and workplace health and safety regulations. The course will enable delegates to take charge of an incident requiring first aid assistance and deal with an emergency effectively.

Course materials
Delegates will receive course handouts and a certificate, valid for three years and recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Course contents
• The principles of first aid
• The role and responsibilities of the first aider
• The importance of basic hygiene and minimizing the risk of infection
• Assessing and managing an incident safely, promptly and effectively
• Communicating with a casualty
• When and how to call for help
• Treatment of a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure
• Basic life support including CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation)
• Administering first aid to a casualty who is choking
• Providing first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock
• Dealing with minor injuries such as cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters
• Using available first aid equipment safely
• The contents of a first aid kit
• Recording incidents and actions
