Course overview
This course is aimed at both new and existing managers who want to help
their team members achieve their full potential. The programme will introduce
participants to the process of on-the-job coaching and development.
Who should attend
This course is designed for new and existing managers. Participants will
be asked to complete a learning contract with their line manager prior
to attending the course. We recommend maximum 12 delegates.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you will:
Have identified and started to build the skills used when developing
both individuals and teams
Understand the ways in which adults learn and how to apply this
when helping staff develop at work
Know how the Knowledge and Skills Framework supports personal development
and how this is incorporated into the appraisal system
Be able to recognise skills gaps and create relevant learning opportunities
Recognise a broad range of learning activities and when they might
be appropriate
Be aware of the benefits of using the team to provide learning
interventions
Be familiar with the stages involved in the coaching process
Know how to design and deliver coaching sessions
Be able to measure success against development objectives
Know how to devise personal development plans
Training style
The workshop will be highly interactive, encouraging participation and
making use of exercises, discussions and group work. There will be the
opportunity for skills practice and review in each section. Practical
and relevant examples will be used as a springboard to help apply knowledge
and understanding to real-life scenarios. A healthy balance of trainer
input and a variety of practical activities ensure adult learning principles
are met.
Course materials
Handouts and worksheets are provided to each participant to support topics
covered on the workshop. Certificates of attendance will be presented
to each participant after training has been completed.
