Course aim
This course aims to introduce participants to a range of skills and techniques they can use to develop their management skills.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course participants will:

• understand their role as a manager
• have identified their preferred management style and how to use this to best effect
• be able to plan and delegate tasks appropriately
• understand a range of motivational theories and be able to apply these at work
• be able to communicate effectively in a variety of situations
• be aware of the various roles people take on within a team
• be able to use a range of strategies when dealing with difficult situations
• have reviewed their own methods of personal organisation
• understand how people learn and how managers can coach individuals to help them realise their potential
• have devised both a personal and group action plan

Training style
The course will be informal and participative, using a combination of individual and group work, exercises and short trainer inputs. The emphasis will be on how participants can apply what they learn on the course back at work. To help with this, participants will be given a learning contract to complete prior to the course.
