Learning outcomes
At the end of the course participants will:
Understand the purpose and principles of the Managing Attendance
policy and procedures
Know their role as managers, and the rights of staff, in fairly
and consistently applying the policy and procedures
Understand the purpose and structure of Return to Work and Review
Period interviews and completion of related documentation
Understand the role of the Occupational Health Adviser when dealing
with certain types of absence
Be aware of the possible outcomes of the procedure and the appeals
process
Training style
The course will be practical and participative. There will be a mixture
of case studies, practice exercises and short inputs on the procedure
and good practice. The course is designed to increase knowledge, skills
and confidence.

The role of the manager

Purpose and structure (possible use of video)

Completion of monitoring forms

Presentation (possibly by an adviser)
Question & answer session
Other sources of advise and support (eg PACT, counselling services, role
of HR and Unions)
Case studies
Application of procedures in differing situations (e.g. disability, stress,
bullying, alcohol or drug related absences)
Options if attendance does not improve at final
stages
